Counselling & Psychotherapy

You may not know exactly what you need from therapy, you might be very clear, it could be be for almost any reason in the world. Often my clients are trying to navigate a challenging situation or experiencing strong emotions. Perhaps you feel that a better version of you is just out of reach. Therapy is a safe way to explore and seek resolutions.
It all begins with a conversation. There is no charge for our initial meeting and you decide in your own time if you wish to proceed.

When we meet, we’ll explore your situation (which might not be clear even to you initially) to create a rough map of where you are and then see what might be useful.
After walking through how we would work together (our ‘contract’) I will then suggest you spend a couple of days deciding if want to begin.
If we don’t feel right for each other, no problem, it might be worth trying a few more people until you find the right one. I can probably even recommend some. Otherwise we just book some sessions in.

I work alongside you as a sort of compassionate, pragmatic, sidekick, trying the understand your emotional responses or reactions to your circumstances. I provide a space where it’s safe to work through your situation however difficult it might seem. We do this until you decide you don’t need to any longer.
As each week progresses we cautiously dig deeper into your subconscious and learn more about reactions, making discoveries, processing emotions until you are content with where you are and decide to stop.
Everything we do is guided by my professional ethical framework which provides confidentiality and I will explain this all in our initial contract conversation.
We form a therapeutic alliance which strengthens the more we continue. I explain a little more of this in the BLOG

As a therapist I work with adults in a one to one setting, either in person or online. Our initial conversation will help understand if I’m the right therapist for you.
If you are looking for couples therapy or are under 18 I can usually direct you to trusted colleagues.

My original training is as a Humansitic Integrative Therapist, which is an holistic approach and draws on Carl Roger’s person centered therapy, Gestalt therapy and Transactional Analysis.
Often when we start you might not be clear about what you are experiencing or why. Don’t worry too much about that, we’ll usually find an entry point in an emotional response to some aspect of life and it’s those emotional responses that usually lead us to the centre of your situation. In the last couple of decades I have worked with people with very many situations and issues and often our work is about my clients relationship with themselves. But maybe you have trouble in a relationship, maybe you are experiencing anxiety or anger, low self esteem, lack of confidence, or are struggling with substance dependency. You might have trauma or PTSD or are experiencing other challenges in your life.
If you are in any doubt, just get in touch and we can unpack where you are and see if I can help. If I can’t I can usually refer you to someone in my professional network who can.
